This is great news to Solvatten and other providers of clean tech and sustainable solutions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>General Principles<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Sustainable procurement is consistent with the\u00a0United Nations and UNDP\u2019s general procurement\u00a0principles:<\/p>\n<p>a) B est value for money: The selection of offers\u00a0which presents the\u00a0<strong>optimum combination<\/strong>\u00a0of\u00a0factors such as appropriate quality,<strong>\u00a0life-cycle\u00a0costs<\/strong>\u00a0and other parameters. Environmental and\u00a0social considerations can be included among\u00a0these parameters. Furthermore,<strong>\u00a0reduce\u00a0energy and resource consumption<\/strong>throughout\u00a0the life-cycle results in greater\u00a0efficiencies and\u00a0<strong>long-term cost savings<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>b) Fairness, integrity and transparency: These principles are guaranteed through the incorporation of sustainability criteria at the early stages of the procurement process. Sustainable procurement also helps reduce reputational risk and helps uphold UNDP\u2019s emphasis on integrity and responsibility.<\/p>\n<p>c) Effective international competition: To support effective competition, sustainable procurement must be implemented progressively and in full respect of the right of access to the United Nations market for suppliers from developing countries and countries with economies in transition.<\/p>\n<p>d) The best interests of UNDP: Sustainable procurement is clearly in the best interest of UNDP as it supports the alignment of procurement to the core mission of sustainable development.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.greeningtheblue.org\/sites\/default\/files\/Practitioner's%20Guide%20to%20Sustainable%20Procurement-1.pdf\">Continue reading\u2026<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>24th of October is the date to celebrate UN.
