A significant milestone has been reached for Solvatten’s partnership with Sweden for UNHCR providing more than 100,000 people with clean and hot water in Uganda. Solvatten teamed up with Sverige for UNHCR in Uganda in 2021 and we are proud to announce that we now have distributed more than 20,000 Solvatten units to more than 20,000 families. As far as we know, this is the world’s largest known implementation of solar thermal + UV water treatment in a humanitarian context. Instead of short-term solutions, like chloride tablets, families get their own robust unit that can function for at least 7 years. It generates strong ownership and continuity in a system that often is characterized by temporary interventions.
Through our partnership with Sweden for UNHCR we can reach families in very vulnerable contexts. Many refugees struggle to access clean and hot water in their daily life and Solvatten can help them to save money, time and at the same time improve their health and hygiene.
