Solvatten is developed for families living without secure access to clean water, hot water, electricity, or fuel. Solvatten is used in over 40 countries and has reached more than 800,000 people.

Where infrastructure is lacking

Our purpose is to strengthen people’s health, hygiene, and resilience by making safe, hot water available in the home. We work where water, energy, and hygiene infrastructure are insufficient, and where a simple solution reduces disease risk, fuel needs, time burden, and climate impact.

Our work is about everyday resilience: better hygiene, more time, reduced fuel needs, lower emissions, and greater security in communities already living with the consequences of climate change.

The story behind Solvatten

Solvatten was developed by Petra Wadström. The idea arose when she considered the strength of solar energy in many parts of the world and how it could be used to solve everyday problems.

Many people lack access to safe water and need to collect firewood to boil or heat water at home. This entails both health risks and environmental strain.

The starting point was to develop a solution that is easy to use and does not require electricity or fuel. The result was Solvatten, a portable container that uses sunlight to heat and purify water.

Since then, the solution has been developed through testing, collaborations, and projects in several countries.

How Solvatten is organized

Solvatten Group consists of Solvatten AB, Solvatten Fundraising Foundation, and Solvatten Charitable Foundation USA. The entities have different roles but work toward the same purpose: to make safe, hot water available where the need is greatest. Solvatten AB develops and delivers the solution, the foundation finances projects through donations and 90-account status, and the American foundation enables donors in the US to contribute. Any surplus in Solvatten AB originating from foundation-funded projects is reinvested into the foundation’s purpose.

Solvatten AB

Solvatten AB develops, produces, and delivers Solvatten. The company is responsible for technology, quality, exports, project deliveries, and the parts of the business where monitoring, reporting, and verifiable climate benefits are required.

Solvatten Charitable Foundation

Solvatten Fundraising Foundation receives donations and finances projects for people who lack secure access to clean and hot water. The foundation holds 90-account status and works to ensure that donations are converted into concrete benefits through local and international partners.

Solvatten Charitable Foundation USA

Solvatten Charitable Foundation USA enables individuals, foundations, and companies in the USA to support Solvatten projects.
