Contaminated water and poor hygiene still cause preventable diseases, especially among children and other vulnerable groups. By making clean hot water available near homes or in healthcare settings, Solvatten can contribute to better hygiene practices and reduce exposure to infectious diseases.
Health Benefits Can Also Be Measured
Solvatten’s indicative model for health impact estimates that approximately 0.43 DALYs* can be avoided per household per year, which corresponds to about 3 healthy years of life over seven years of use.
This calculation is based on reduced health risks associated with unsafe household water and inadequate hygiene. Solvatten is used in WASH and health programs, including in environments where access to safe and warm water is limited or unreliable.
If an implementation cost of 150 USD per household is assumed, the indicative calculation corresponds to approximately 50 USD per DALY avoided. The methodology, assumptions, and sources should be considered when interpreting the results.
