No Smoke Without Fire – a pilot project with the Wildhood Foundation

Together with the Wildhood Foundation and their local partner Akashinga, park rangers in Mozambique were equipped with Solvatten, which they evaluated during the end of 2025. They saw how Solvatten made a significant difference in the rangers' daily lives in the field; when the sun replaces fire, they avoid dangerous smoke and improve both health and safety.

About the partnership

The pilot project to test Solvatten in park rangers’ mobile camps in Mozambique, together with the Wildhood Foundation and their local partner Akashinga, began in 2025, and during the fall, they finally received their first Solvatten units for real-world testing.

The group underwent Solvatten’s training on correct usage and the benefits of using Solvatten to evaluate whether the technology contributed to any positive improvements.

After two months, the test was followed up, and the team reported that the effects were noticeable and impressive. After just a few weeks, the burden of collecting firewood and building fires was significantly reduced. They also noted Solvatten’s great potential to reduce costs for purchasing and transporting clean water.

Based on this successful pilot, we now want to launch a larger project together with the Wildhood Foundation to give more teams access to Solvatten in their work in Zimbabwe, Mozambique, and Botswana. We also hope that the next phase of our collaboration can include support for local communities in flood-affected areas bordering the protected wilderness.

Results

  • Stomach pains and illnesses have decreased among the teams because they can now drink and cook with guaranteed clean water.
  • Since the sun handles the heating of the water, the teams no longer need to build fires while out on patrol. This reduces the need for firewood and minimizes the risk of dangerous wildfires.
  • Resources for transporting or purchasing clean water are no longer needed. Solvatten is carried by the teams, allowing water from local sources to be purified directly on-site, saving both time and money that can instead be spent on protecting wildlife.

During the pilot project, we have seen how clean and warm water improves life for both people and the environment. This simple yet ingenious solution has proven to make a significant difference for work in the field.
